Air Quality

  •  According to the EPA indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental health risks. Indoor air pollutants are unwanted, harmful materials in the air.  Pollutants that can affect air quality in your home, at the office, in hotel rooms or school rooms fall into the following Categories. . .

Asthma and Allergies

  •  Asthma is a serious, sometimes life-threatening, chronic, respiratory disease that affects almost 25 million Americans. People with asthma and allergies suffer enormous discomfort when exposed to pollution. It is very important to have a clean environment, free of chemicals and pollutants.  Asthma attacks can be triggered by things like mold on your shower curtain, secondhand smoke, pets, chemical irritants, wood smoke, outdoor air    pollution or tiny dust mites that live in blankets, pillows or your child’s stuffed animals. In our experience, we have found that those who suffer from asthma and allergies need a high-quality air purifier that is also user friendly and whisper quiet. The Aireox D-Model 45 room Air Purifier is the perfect answer; it is whisper quiet for bedrooms in order to insure a good night’s sleep- especially for children.  It is also designed to run 24 hours a day.

Bacteria

  • When a person coughs, small particles of moisture are emitted into the air containing bacteria. Bacteria needs moisture to survive. The moisture absorbing ability of the activated carbon reduces the life of bacteria.

Benzene

  • Benzene is a sweet-smelling liquid chemical that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies as a Class A carcinogen. Benzene is known to cause cancer, based on evidence from studies in both people and lab animals. Benzene is among the 20 most widely used chemical in the United States. Many people are exposed to Benzene through a wide range of products - products that we use in everyday life. Detergents, dyes, solvents,        plastics, synthetic fibers, resins, paint, adhesives, glues, asphalts, lighter fluid, cigarette  smoking and secondhand smoke, gasoline, kerosene, inks, lacquer thinner, rubber cement,  contact cement, solvents, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, rubbers, drugs, and pesticides.   Exposure can take place either through inhalation or absorption through the skin although  the main way people are exposed is by breathing in air containing benzene. Benzene exposure can cause serious health issues and even death with repeated exposure.
All our carbon filters will be good for tackling benzene in the air, but we recommend the  Aireox Model D with the Purafil/Carbon Filter which is out best filter for VOC’s.

Carbons and Absorption Capacity List

  •  Activated Carbon – Is a high grade carbon that is well suited to airborne chemical removal. Activated carbon is accomplished by using a super heated steam in the carbonation process that causes micro pores to form in the carbon. This allows the carbon a much greater surface area and provides a greater capacity for gas and odor absorption. Beware! Some activated carbon is acid washed. Aireox carbon is not acid washed  The two most common activated carbons are:  Coconut and Bituminous

Carbon Monoxide (CO)

  • Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless toxic gas. Before we go any farther if you do not have a carbon monoxide warning alarm in your house do so now.   The fumes are impossible to see, taste, or smell; and can affect your health before you are aware it is in your home or car.  It is a attmospheric pollutant in some urban areas, chiefly from the exhaust of internal combustion engines (including vehicles on the road or in attached garages, portable and back-up generators, lawn mowers, power washers, etc.), but also from incomplete combustion of various other fuels (including wood, coal, charcoal, oil, paraffin, propane, natural gas, and tobacco smoke).
Our Purafil/Carbon mix in our D-Model is the only filter that will remove this harmful toxin

Converter

 The Schumacher PC-6

  • 120AC to 6A 12V DC Power Converter works great. It does not get real hot like most converters.  You can find it online at different stores such as Sears, Amazon and Walmart.

Dust Mites

  •  A microscopic insect that clings to dust particles. Dust mites feed on organic detritus, such as flakes of shed human skin. House dust mites are a common cause of asthma and allergic symptoms world wide. House dust mites, due to their very small size (250 to 300 microns in length) and translucent bodies, are not visible to the unaided eye.The average life cycle for a male house dust mite is 10 to 19 days. A mated female house dust mite can   last up to 70 days, laying 60 to 100 eggs in the last 5 weeks of her life. In a 10-week life span, a house dust mite will produce approximately 2,000 fecal particles and an even larger number of partially digested enzyme-covered dust particles. The house dust mite  survives in all climates, even at high altitude. House dust mites thrive in the indoor environment provided by homes, specifically in bedrooms and kitchens. Dust mites survive well in mattresses, carpets, furniture and bedding. . Even in dry climates, house dust mites survive and reproduce easily in bedding (especially in pillows), which takes up moisture from body contact. Exposure to the mites should be reduced as much as possible.
  •  The Aireox air purifier's (.3 micron) particle filter and abundant activated carbon effectively traps and remove dust mites from the air.

EMF - Electro Magnetic Field

  •  All Motors have some EMF. Here is a list of appliances found in most homes. Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Washer, Dryer. Aireox motors have a very low EMF because the housing is grounded to the blower which keeps it from radiating out.

Formaldehyde

  • Formaldehyde is a carbon based liquid that is widely used by industries to manufacture building materials and numerous household products. It is also a by-product of combustion and certain other natural processes. Thus, it may be present in substantial concentrations both indoors and outdoors according to the EPA. This chemical is very irritating to people with asthma, allergies, MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and many other people with breathing difficulties. Formaldehyde is known as a volatile organic compound and is found in many building materials in the home, office and hotel rooms such as in carpets, drapes, and pressed wood. You will find it in the component of glues, sealants, and adhesives, in ceiling tiles and used as a preservative in some paints and coating products. It's found in some non-building materials such as house hold products, gas stoves or kerosene space heaters, tobacco smoke, smog, and nail polish. It is also used to add permanent-press qualities to clothing and draperies which slowly emits formaldehyde causing health risks. A chemical control media such as Activated Carbon/Purafil our D-Model is necessary for the removal of this Toxic gas from the indoor environment.

HBCD

  •  Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is a flame retardant chemical of potential concern.  Its primary application is used as thermal insulation in the building industry.  Other uses are upholstered furniture, automobile interior, textiles  and car cushions.  The EPA has identified the chemical as persistent in the environment. Also according to the EPA human exposure is evidenced by the presence of HBCD in breast milk, adipose tissue and blood.            People may be exposed to HBCD from products and dust in the home and workplace.

HEPA

  • The term "HEPA" stands for High Efficiency Particle Airification. The H.E.P.A filter is a pleated type filter whose only function is to remove particles from the air (dust, smoke,  pollen etc.) Normally the H.E.P.A type filters uses large amounts of adhesives to seal off the ends of the pleated material. The sealant required can out-gas and cause people to have a bad reaction, especially those who are chemically sensitive or have asthma or other        allergies.
Aireox particle filters do not require adhesives that can out gas chemicals into the air.

Herbicides

  •  Herbicides are chemicals used to manipulate or control undesirable vegetation. The most frequent application of herbicides occurs in farming, where they are applied before or during planting.  In the suburban and urban areas, herbicides are applied to lawns, parks, golf courses and other areas.

MCS

  •  Multiple Chemical Sensitivities is an affliction which causes a person to have severe sensitivity or allergy-like reaction to many different kinds of pollutants such as paint fumes, smoke, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and other agricultural chemicals, plastics, synthetic fabrics, glues, varnishes, polishes, solvents, paint thinners, bleach, fabric softeners, laundry detergents, perfumes, lotions, aftershave, nail polish, scented products, pet fur dander and petroleum–based products including tar or asphalt.

Mold and Mold Spores

  •  Molds can be found almost anywhere. They can grow on virtually any organic substance, as long as moisture and oxygen are present. Molds produce tiny spores to reproduce. Mold spores are the air born seeds that can produce new mold growth.  Mold spores waft through the air both indoors and outdoors continually.  Potential health effects and            symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma and other respiratory problems.
The Aireox air purifier's (.3 micron) particle filter and abundant activated carbon effectively traps and removes mold spores from the air

MTB's

  •  MTB's are a by-product of an additive now used in more gasoline products. It is used to   decrease auto exhaust emissions. In some cases, the emissions from this additive can make people sick, robbing them of well being and interrupting their sleep. An Aireox air purifier in the bedroom or car will help control the problem

Negative Ions

  •  The Aireox does not produce negative ions.  However, it does remove the pollutants that upset the (negative-positive) ion balance.

Offensive Odors

  • An odor (commonly referred to as a smell or scent), can refer to both pleasant and unpleasant odors. The terms fragrance and aroma are used primarily by the food and  cosmetic industry, and at times also used to refer to perfumes. The human sense of smell is a primary factor in the sensation of comfort. Some inhaled chemicals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be very unpleasant and can cause great discomfort and               may even effect your health.
  • Odor removal is a bonus feature of the Aireox.  The removal of odors is swift and sure. Don’t be embarrassed by household, office or pets odors. Remove them with an Aireox  Professional Air Purifier.

Ozone

  • Ozone is found in the upper atmosphere and at ground level.  While the upper atmospheric ozone protects the earth from the sun’s harmful rays, ground level ozone is the main component of smog.  Ozone is not just found in big cities but can be transported long distances so even rural areas can experience high ozone levels.
Ozone is a very dangerous gas that can cause damage to lung tissue.  Even relatively low levels of ozone can cause health effects.  Breathing ozone can trigger a variety of health problems including, coughing, chest pains, and throat irritation.  It can worsen emphysema, asthma, and bronchitis.  Emissions from industrial facilities and electric utilities, motor vehicle exhaust, gasoline vapors, and chemical solvents are some of the major sources.
The Aireox air purifier's abundant Activated Carbon/Purafil media bed will effectively remove ozone from the environment.

Pollutants

  • Pollutants are unwanted, harmful materials in the air. Pollutants that can affect air quality can be classified as primary or secondary. Usually,
primary pollutants are directly emitted from a process, such as ash from a volcanic eruption, the carbon monoxide gas from a motor vehicle exhaust or sulfur dioxide released from factories. Secondary pollutants are not emitted directly. Rather, they form in the air when primary pollutants react or interact. Some pollutants may be both primary and secondary: that is, they are both emitted directly and formed from other primary pollutants.

Some major primary pollutants produced by human activity include:

  • Sulfur oxides- Since coal and petroleum often contain sulfur compounds, their combustion generates sulfur dioxide
  • Carbon monoxide - a colorless, odorless poisonous gas. It is a product by incomplete combustion of fuel such as natural gas, coal or wood. Vehicular exhaust is a major source of carbon monoxide.
  • Carbon dioxide  - a colorless, odorless, gas emitted from sources such as combustion and cement production.

The Aireox Air Purifier D-Model with our Purafil/Carbon Mix Filter is recommended

Particles

  •  The word particle is general in meaning. Whether an object can be considered particles depends on the scale of the context; if an object's own size is small or negligible. For  example: Galaxies are so large that stars can be considered particles relative to them. Grains of sand on a beach can be considered particles because the size of one grain of sand is negligible compared to the beach.
  • The size of a particle is usually described in microns as a replacement for the traditional thou or mil, each of which represent a thousandth of an inch. There are 25,400 microns in one inch. The eye can see particles to about 40 microns.

Pesticides

  •  A pesticide is any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing or destroying. The term pesticide also applies to herbicides, fungicides, and various other  substances.  According to a survey, 80 percent of most people’s exposure to pesticides  occurs indoors and that measurable levels of up to a dozen pesticides have been found in the air inside homes.   Many household products are pesticides: Kitchen, Laundry, Bath                 disinfectants and sanitizers, Products that kill mold and mildew, weed killer, insect repellents, flea and tick sprays, powders, pet collars, and some pool chemicals.  Pesticides can also be tracked in from the outside from contaminated soil or with dust that floats in.

Pet Dander and Hair

  • Almost 70% of households have one or more pets. Proteins in your pet’s skin flakes, urine, feces, saliva and hair can trigger asthma.  Hair and fur can collect pollen, mold spores and other outdoor allergens. It’s recommended that you keep them out of the sleeping areas, and away from upholstered furniture. Vacuum, all carpets, rugs and furniture often and use your Aireox  Air Purifier.

Purafil / Voc List

  •  Purafil is made from potassium permanganate. It works in a different manner than carbon.  Harmful contaminant gases such as Formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitric oxide are actually oxidized and are trapped within the pellet. This Product is generally not used as a sole media. Aireox has researched and found that mixing Purafil with carbon is every effective. This mixture together becomes a super filter.

Purafil / Carbon Mix

  •  We recommend our “PC” mixture that’s in our Model D Unit when dealing with aggressive chemicals/gases, like formaldehyde in homes or polyvinyl chlorides in automobiles.

A coconut carbon media by itself removes for example using a scale from 1-4 (4 being the highest)

Formaldehyde -2                    Nitrogen Dioxide – 2                     Carbon Monoxide -1

  • Some common Contaminants removed by this mixture are hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide,    nitric acid, formaldehyde, acetic acid, alcohols and VOC’s like Benzene, chlorine, ozone, toluene, phenol, methyl alcohol and tobacco smoke. Please note that this is not a complete list

Radon

  •  Radon is an odorless, tasteless and invisible gas produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.  Radon is found in outdoor air and in the indoor air of buildings of all  kinds.  If you have a Radon leak that is under your house no air purifier will be able to stop     Radon from coming into your home.   It is very important that measures be taken to stop the leak of Radon from coming into your home.  Here's a link from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on what steps to take:
  •  epa.com - search Radon
  • Once the leak is under control an Aireox air purifier can be used

Smog and Industrial Pollution

  • Photo chemical smog contains large amounts of (ozone) and other irritating gases. It’s the    irritating gases that cause the discomfort a person feels when smog is present. These irritating gases also bring on or aggravate respiratory problems.
Smog is thought to be found only in major cities but can be transported by the wind so that  even rural areas can experience high ozone levels. It is a type of air pollution derived from vehicular emission from internal combustion engines and industrial fumes

Tobacco Smoke / Smoke

  • Breathing secondhand smoke or smoke from a wood burning stove or fireplaces can be harmful to your health and cause asthma attacks, severe bronchitis, aggravate heart and lung disease and may increase the likelihood of respiratory illnesses.
  • Secondhand smoke is classified as a "known human carcinogen" (cancer-causing agent) by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US National Toxicology Program, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). This pollutant is one of the hardest to eliminate or at least keep somewhat under control.
  • The Aireox will reduce up to 60% of the amount of smoke emitted when a smoker is present and total elimination is obtained anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour after the tobacco is extinguished, depending on the concentration

Traveling

  •  Hotel rooms, vacation homes, and even your friend's and relative's homes can have pets or   smoke residue in the linens and drapes or numerous VOC’s present.  Many people enjoy traveling and there is no reason to stop.  Some of our customers bring the highly portable room model 45 with them when flying. (Note: Make sure the Air Purifier is boxed in a way it   will not get damage). For those who enjoy driving, the Car Model 22 provides high
  •  re-circulation with superior cleaning ability. If you're traveling with pets our car model is great for removing pet odors

VOC - Volatile Organic Compounds

  • Volatile organic compounds are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at ordinary, room-temperature conditions. VOCs are numerous. Some include cleaning supplies, pesticides, paints, building material and furnishings; even office equipment such   as copiers and printers. They include both human-made and naturally occurring chemical compounds and some can cause harm to the environment or be dangerous to your health.     VOC’s are consistently higher indoors than outdoors.
